What is the key to the truth and power of science? Would a theory of everything disprove the soul? Is matter all there is? Can I keep science and my common sense? Can we travel back in time? Is it evolution or creation or รข€¦? Will scientists ever make a man? Will we ever create artificial intelligence? If so, what does that say about my worth? What is the ultimate source of our intellectual malaise?Anthony Rizzi, a distinguished physicist, answers these questions and more. "What a terrific book!!...The time is now. Philosophers, scientists, and the educated reader will profit enormously from this book." -Ralph McInerny, University of Notre Dame philosophy professor, Gifford Lecturer "There is a pressing need for Anthony Rizzi's book, which reveals the link between science and man's deepest questions in a bold, clear and truthful way. His book is full of insights that readers will relish and want to read again and again to plumb their depths." -Marcus Grodi, host of The Journey Home, EWTN "The Science Before Science ...provides much needed perspective." -Joseph Martin, Chief Scientist, Planetary Science Lab (retired), Lockheed Martin

"For centuries western culture thrived in an intellectual environment fueled by the conviction that the world existed independent of us and was orderly, that we could understand it, and thus should observe and work with nature. Many great minds, formed in this cultural mindset, contributed to our great western heritage since the time of the Greeks. But somehow that began to change 400 years ago and today we're so far removed from that turning period in history, and so blinded to what preceded it, that we take for granted the foundations that were laid, which are essential and necessary for all that we know today. Our present culture has gone insane, not only because of its obsession with digging the foundations of our knowledge rather than building on them, but because it is so disconnected with our history. Modern textbooks (with the exception of Physics For Realists) provide a censored account at best, and our schools are centers for the promulgation and praise of ignorance and folly where people never learn to think. Dr. Anthony Rizzi has written a one-of-a-kind book here that demands the immediate attention of our culture. He is uniquely qualified to lead us back to our senses, to reason, and to the virtues that made the west the most intellectually fertile culture in the history of civilization. This is not a book for scientists or philosophers to ponder on curious esoteric dilemmas. This is a book that absolutely EVERYONE needs to read (and study) because it addresses the most important crisis at the heart of our culture, as well as provide guidance for what we can and should do."

The Science Before Science A Guide to Thinking in the 21st Century Anthony Rizzi 9781418465049 Books Reviews

  • Not being a scientist or a physics major, I found this book to be tough going most of the time. The terms, science and ideas in it took some time to grapple with before I was able to somewhat understand them before moving on to the next one or even get it in the context of the sentence or paragraph or chapter it was used in (and then had to review when referenced in subsequent chapters). But, overall, that was the point. this is a book about thinking, distinct from merely having thoughts. It is a book on how we come to think the way we do and the opportunity to think in different ways. So it challenged me in the exact way it was supposed to. Al in all, it may have been tough going, but the payoff was tremendous.
  • I barely got through Physical Science class in college, and I wish I'd had this book back then. The Science Before Science puts meaning behind all those sterile, mathematical facts. I am having to go slowly, but the trip is so full of beautiful scenery, I like not having to rush. Dr. Rizzi has opened up the whole universe for the reader, introducing some heavy concepts in an accessible prose, with ample illustrations. All parents should study this book the "why" questions of children are really the important ones, the ones we should all be asking, and apparently there are real answers. From Aristotle to Thomas Aquinas, Dr. Rizzi is opening up for us the wisdom of humanity's very best thinkers. Those who do not believe that there is such a thing as Best, or Truth, or Highest, should pass on this book and remain in ignorance. A pity!
  • The Science Before Science is the first book that gives the broad view of science, and how our culture has led people and even many great scientists to confusion and forgetfulness about reality. We have, and still are, destroying the foundation of knowledge that many great ancient philosophers built. Therefore, we must go back to philosophy, รข€ล“The Science before Scienceรข€, and the first principles of various subjects and of all things and reestablish our foundation. Science used to be part of philosophy, but no more. One of the things that caught my attention is when I read my biology textbook; the author of the book wrote รข€ล“Most of the atom is nothing.รข€ So I flipped the pages to find the name of the author and saw that he is a professor from a very famous university. This is only one among many other mistakes that people, even famous scientists, who have no knowledge of philosophy have made. There are many people who unconsciously believe things, and so did I. The first time I read through this book I was totally confused, but it was because of my own confusions not any in the book. Each time I read over the chapter, I gained a better and deeper understanding about the book as my own confusion cleared away. This book helps me avoid making mistakes and using wrong words, which could lead to confusion later on. I encourage everyone, not only scientists, to read this book over and over again. I would also recommend the book รข€ล“A Kidรข€™s Introduction to Physicsรข€. People might think that this book is only for kids, but believe it or not, many people will not understand it the first time they read it. This is because of how the culture trains our mind to think in the รข€ล“robotรข€ way. And for those who love physics, I also would recommend the book รข€ล“Physics for Realistรข€. This book is a unique book. Rather than just give you equations, Physics for Realist provides the broad concepts and connects with philosophy. I am currently a freshman at University of Texas at Austin and taking physics. When I read through the textbook that our class uses, I could not understand anything, because most parts of the book are just equations put together. I regretted that I did not bring Dr. Rizziรข€™s Physics of Realist with me at the beginning of the semester.

  • This book should be in every high school and college. This book stimulates thought, deep thought even after you are done reading this book. Although the vocabulary is mature and it takes meditative thought while reading and rereading, it is eye opening, answers a lot of questions and just makes sense. Great read for deep discussions, which I think would benefit everyone, adults and youth who seek to know the truth. It puts all scientific study in better perspective as the sciences relate to one another.
