"I love Witchblade. I got into it when I was 13 (12 years ago) and learned to draw by copying Michael Turner's work. The story was awesome, the art was amazing.. I've since lost all of my original comics in my junky garage, so the compendium is a nice way to re-read a great, engaging story, full of action, mystery, and excitement. Well worth the money for the amount of issues you get, if your only concern is reading the story and looking at the art work - not collecting. It's heavy and very thick, so it's not something you can carry around with you. Any fan of the comic should add this to their collection as a way to re-experience the good ol' days and not have to bring out your box of comics. :) Also good for newcomers needing back issues; way cheaper."

Witchblade Compendium Volume I David Wohl Michael Turner Christina Z Paul Jenkins Randy Green Keu Cha Books Reviews

  • I got it actually because I found XM Studios Witchblade statue first, which is awesome. I wanted to find out about this character, discovered she's been around for awhile, got the compendium. It's a frikkin phone book, but gorgeous art on high quality paper.

The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because the story is confusing at times and a bit thin... given that it's a graphic novel and they can't fill up the pages with text, it has to be brief. But still, it's a gorgeous book if nothing else for a work of art.
  • This is a really big book, it's heavy and feels like a tome. I'm pretty new to Witchblade, but so far I like it. It's definitely a comic worth reading. I love the art style, but I'm pretty open minded. If you're a hardcore collector who likes your stuff in mint condition, I don't recommend this book, upon opening the first few pages the glue from the binding came off from the cover. It's still attached, but now when you open it you see a long line of dried glue. There was some spine stress, especially on the bottom, not sure if all are like that. The pages are a nice the nice glossy kind, where a greasy finger print will appear. Either way I bought it for enjoyment and reading more than once.

  • I've long been reading the Darkness, and for just as long have known I should be reading Witchblade too... but I always put it off. But with the new developements in the story I just can't ignore the other half any longer. At first I was worried about trying to catch up. The Witchblade has been going on for a bit longer then Darkness and I was sure I'd NEVER hunt down all the back issues.

This book was a WONDERFUL thing to find. It's a little daunting to read, being about 7lbs. But it saved me a lot of time and a lot of money from trying to hunt down the individual issues! Volume one collectes issues 1-50, which I knew would be hard to track down and potientaly pretty pricey! At my regular comic shop 50 issues at the standard 2.99 a book would have set me back nearly 150$! But this costs only a third of that!

I definatly recomend this to anyone looking to start reading the Witchblade! Go ahead and pick up Vol. 2 an you're only about 30 short of being caught up to the current issue! Saves time, and money... just don't expect the ease of single issues. I ordered Volumes one an two together an they weigh in right at 15lbs! Be prepared for some heavy reading!
  • I received this one for Xmas along with the Darkness compendium. Both are very very big and heavy books! So yes, you have to take extra care so you don't wreck them when you read them (I am very careful with my books!), but it is totally worth. Really good quality paper also.
Then, for the plot, it is not super intellectual as you can guess, but it is a very entertaining story and the drawing style is great too!
    Do not hesitate!
  • some spelling errors, kind of ridiculous imo. binding isnt great at all. im maybe a third of the way reading through the compendium and the binding already fell apart in one spot. granted this thing weighs a ton, but still...
  • Good way to catch up on the series, although a few Darkness issues were not included though they were included in the smaller compilations. This leads to some gaps in the story. Some other "side" issues weren't included like the Wolverine crossover one (one issue ends with a pic of W. in the distance). Also the book is heavy and what-not... but I'm very happy that it's all in color. I was very surprised that it was so. I expected it to be in black and white.

I also have a gripe about the pages... If only they left a little extra section so the middle was more readable.
  • Finally the new edition of The Withblade Compenidum is avalible. I've been waiting for this for a long time, not knowing when it would turn up. But here it is. Go back to the beginning and get to know Sarah Pezzini and the Witchblade. Great fun and many hours worth of reading material. The artwork is amazing, and the hardcover feels really good. The only thing that makes this one not getting a five star review is the fact that I thought it would be oversized, just like The Absolute Sandman-books. That would have been awsome, and so points out the fact that this is not a 100% perfect edition, but what the heck, BUY IT !!!!
