Journaling Through a Breakup How to Effectively Cope Through a Breakup Without Gaining 50 lbs or Becoming Anorexic Nancy Newman Nance Newman 9781530320578 Books Reviews
- At my age I’ve had too many breakups to count and remember. I wish I knew about this coping mechanism then because it would have helped me so much more. Breakups are inevitable, be it of a relationship, loss of job, life, etc. it is a very emotional matter that’s often not dealt with adequately. Here this book offers an unconventional and alternative method of dealing with loss.
I knew that journaling helps relieve stress but have now learnt that it helps with problem solving and resolution of disagreements as well. The good thing about journaling is that it’s impromptu, unstructured and gives total freedom to be myself, no need for me to worry about grammar and such things, I just write.
I love this book because it helps me deal with a real life reality in a practical way. I will share it with others as we all go through one type of break up or the other. - Great Great Great! I like the part about putting manure in the drive way...seriously though...reveals real courage along one if those really tough parts of the journey of life...and offers encouragement and real help..think it's time for me to start a journal. By the way...someone breaking up with a neat person like you? Makes no sense whatsoever...
- I am always looking for books to recommend to my clients.
This is an excellent book. Nancy makes it easy to get started
on the difficult journey to healing.
The book is relevant, heart felt, and openly and honestly presented.
I like the eight step process. Well done, highly recommended. - This is an excellent how-to survive a loss book. The author shares her own traumatic break-up, as well as how she survived it, and gives the reader the tools to do the same. Journaling is indeed a life-saver.
- It is a wonderful way of processing and healing from heartbreaks.
It validates my own suffering and grieving that I thought that I would never come out of once. It is worth a while you are at it. - Excellent book on a painful but inevitable aspect of life! She helps you navigate the waters and know with certainty that your life is not over just because of the breakup ! How empowering!
- This book is filled with obvious hard won wisdom. If you are dealing with grief over a break up you need this book. It is especially useful if you feel that you can’t afford a therapist. The author feels that journaling was a better alternative, and actually helped her more.
She helps us understand our feeling and takes us through ten stages of breakup emotions from denial to fear. Her personal story was riveting and I am sure that most of us can relate to her on that level.
She also tells us about a time when she was able to confront her spouse and was able to tell him everything she wanted to say with a calm, rational approach due to her journaling. I am sure that all of us who have been spurned dream of this day, and it was a personal triumph for her.
She gives us fantastic idea to start out with if we have no idea what to write. She gives us ideas for a Kiss Off Letter, and a What Are My Substitutions entry, which I thought were immensely helpful.
It’s wonderful that at the end of the book she takes us to her new found personal understanding that she wasn’t undesirable, she just wasn’t true to herself. This gives us hope that we can come through the devastation in a similar way. - This book will not just help you recover from a break up. It will help you through anything. The power of writing feelings on paper! This book helps you to see things differently and gives you a little willingness to forgive what you felt before. Thank you Ms. Newman!
